The Visit Weekend

What to expect

Once you have been selected for a Design Team, your team leaders will send you background information about the community, logistics and scheduling details, and other importation preparation materials.

Each Visit follows this basic framework:

Pre-Visit

Receive important background materials and information from team leaders.
Attend pre-Visit meeting scheduled by team leaders.

Thursday

Arrive in the community.
Connect with team members and host families at an evening reception.
Stay overnight with host families.
Learn about the community from host families.  

Friday

Eat breakfast with host families.
Convene in town for community presentations.
Listen to series of short presentations given by people in the community.
Eat lunch with community members.
Go on bus and walking tours with community members.
Meet with team to plan for evening town hall meeting.
Conduct town hall meeting.
Enjoy social time together with team and community members.
Return to host families' homes for the night.

Saturday

Eat breakfast with host families.
Convene for all-day charrette with team.
Eat lunch while working.
Eat dinner with community.
Present concepts and drawings at evening community meeting.
Enjoy social time together with team and community members.

Post-Visit

Go on a short follow-up Visit to the community within 6-12 months.
